Same word confirmatio (Latin) Confirmation (English) ad ung as a German ending to the firm in confirmationWhatever it is for other Christian traditions, Confirmation (cap "C") originated as a Sacrament for Catholics.

...per the account of John the Baptist. It's a Christian thing. You either believe it now or come to understand it later. Not really material for a Civil War forum though, PM would be better....... and no matter their age those kids are brainwashed anyway - they actually use water for it when they do it for the first time
why most of those shooting each other had vowed to stick to the 10 commandments...per the account of John the Baptist. It's a Christian thing. You either believe it now or come to understand it later. Not really material for a Civil War forum though, PM would be better.
The German Catholic tradition runs deep. Martin Luther was perhaps the most devout Catholic of his century, in his view the Church leaving him not the other way around.Same word confirmatio (Latin) Confirmation (English) ad ung as a German ending to the firm in confirmation

Nope. My reason is that I grew up.Therein the problem, if it is a problem for you -- that, and your having somehow missed the thing about free will, but that's on your teachers (nuns?) I'd reckon. Is that mistake made when you were 12 going to be your reason (excuse) not to seek out the actual precepts of your faith as an adult, if that's what you want?

If I just gotta enter this fray...Duck, @bryon ed! Here comes my wrench in the works! What about the Praying Indians of New England - kind of like Christianity will civilize the poor benighted Africans. Still were sold in Jamaica, praying all the way, and they weren't even the ones who did the uprising. Jesuits in California - lots of lovely missions for the Mission Indians. What is this 'free will' you speak of? I don't know most of the Jesuits gave any lessons in that because free will said I'll keep my own belief system, thank you very much... Get back here, you pagans, we're going to beat you til you believe. Gosh...Jesuits are still running California, and Oregon as it happens!
Damn, JGG, when you jump you go right off the deep end! How my cranium doth spin!If I just gotta enter this fray...
God has 3 characteristics Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent. Free will violates at least 2 of these. Free Will mucks up Omnipotent, because if God is all-powerful but lacks control over free will, then he is not all-powerful. Free Will mucks up Omniscient -all-knowing because if free will exists, then God cannot know all possibilities and permutations of free will decisions. All present Omnipresent is threatened because how can God be in all futures caused by free will decisions over time.
Apologies, I'll crawl back into my hermit's cave.Damn, JGG, when you jump you go right off the deep end! How my cranium doth spin!
Here is something for you... it a long long article... I think our Germans friends may find the first half interesting..."ideological wellspring."
Hence Free Will, or is it "Free Willy"? Which one is the movie again?Nope. My reason is that I grew up.
Free Willy is an unfettered penis, free of restrictive clothing. Just sayin'. Did they make a movie about it?Hence Free Will, or is it "Free Willy"? Which one is the movie again?
