That's an interesting article about 'ethics committee' and overwhelming cases. That county is right on the border and is mostly Mexican. Sorry...shades of the past that never seems to be past. This illness is making the subject of death panels pop up again and the stupid thing is they've been going on for decades. In Oregon, shortly after they passed the right to die laws, the legislature put in another that said no extraordinary measures could be taken to save a person's life unless it would improve the 'quality of life' by at least 5 to 10 percent. That meant horrifying incidents took place - like the man with terminal lung cancer who wanted a treatment to extend his life a possible 3 months more. That would enable him to place his Alzheimer's mother in a care home and arrange her estate. Instead he got a letter from the state saying his request was denied, it was determined to be too costly and his life would not improve the required percentage but they had a palliative alternative to offer - they would pay for his assisted suicide!

If anyone believe Ms. Wagner 64 year of age should get a 4000 drug for her cancer even thought it is limited changes of success, I hope you believe in universal health care...

Who more at fault Ms. Wagner for being low income, the state for denying her, or a system where money decided who lives and dies...

The he wanted the state to spend thousands of dollars so he could take care end of life issues. I say we have children and family for that and if not them lawyers...

Well, I don't know about all that, 5fish, but I do know it's not the legislature's place to make such decisions. Dr Kitzhaber was the governor of Oregon who pushed through the right to die law, and the Oregon Health Plan - the arrangement of that is why the lady received the state's offer to buy her a bottle of poison. Also known as Dr No for his stubborn resistance to the opposition, the dear governor retired under a cloud of financial suspicion and handed the reins of government to California's former governor's little sister, Kate Brown. And...she has an interesting take on how to handle the current problem of the virus!
