Then look at these.
I had a cool looking train terminal... I see your city spent a lot of money tp saving the murals...

George Washington, who refused to accept a salary for leading the Continental Army and conducted himself with humility and in strict subordination to the will of Congress,
He did send an expense report for a 100,000 plus dollars to congress to pay and they paid it...

In 1783, Washington submitted his expense report. He had spent $160,074. It's hard to adjust for inflation since then, but that number today would certainly be in the millions of dollars.

After a careful audit, the United States Treasury determined that Washington had cut himself short. The US still owed him 89/90 of one dollar.

I like the public art.... My town needs some of these...

I used to live next to this city back in the 80s when I went to A school in the Navy on Mare Island ...
My son and I hunted sea ducks out of Vallejo two years ago. My understanding is Vallejo has seen better days it's a high crime town. Now that California once again has swallowed the magical fantasy of "rehabilitation " crime can only go up.

Did he have expenses out of pocket, or did the Roman senate pay them all?
if he ever lived (which is contested) and if the rumuors are true (which is equally as contested) he didn't bill them for anything.

Possibly because European nation's take rehabilitation more seriously. In America we just catch and release . We do have a higher chance incarceration rate but many more convicted convicts are being released early.

He was dictator so he most likely had his pick of the gold in the Roman treasury before he steps down...

No as the nation since the Ronnie Reagan days it's all been about punishment. I remember the Republicans in the '80s whined about prison weight rooms, prison libraries, prison TV's, teaching them to read, giving them classes or teaching them a trade and so on... most of those things were either gone or greatly reduced by the end of the 80s... for no good reason they kept prisoners happy easier to control, the school help give them a chance on the outside... The truth is the rise of the private prison system in the 1980s under Republican leadership... Private prison does not make money unless there prisoners in them so we started throwing everyone into prison... the states did not save money over time and a lot of people who should never have gone to prison were going to prison... But now restorative justice is making a comeback and states are slowing ending their relationship with private prison companies so hopefully, over the next forty years, it will get better...

Because Americans are stupid. Most Americans still believe they have to go to work because of a talking snake. On the other hand stupidy is relative that's why no country has militarily conquered the US.
Not to argue it's easy to manipulate elections has my good friend Vlad P does.

what has going to work to do with it - do you think everybody is on the dole ineurope? don't you think rehabilitating people so they can go to work and pay taxes is cheaper in the long run than locking them up?

I remember the 70s and 80s as catch and release and rampant crime. When U was at immigration court criminals with long rap sheets were briefly incarcerated then let go and surprise surprise they committed the same crimes. When for a brief while at the beginning of the 21st Century when violent criminals actually had to spend time in the pokey crime went down now it's up.
It's beyond stupid to ensure that violent criminals come out bigger and stronger then they were before they entered prison.

My point was simply most Americans believe in the mythology of religion. I never said most European's were on welfare. The only good crook is a dead crook.
