In the US it's perfectly fine for criminals to do what ever they want and citizens can't rely on defunded police to protect them. Law abiding citizens have to rely on themselves for protection. Not every honest citizen wants to be a willing victim.
I do not know where you live but where I live there no true issue or issues where the citizens need to be armed... I know if you live a middle class life for the most part violent crime will not be an issue...
I live in Los Angeles County and criminals are free to do as they please. If you live in a crime free community then that's wonderful. Most Americans don't and many want the ability to protect themselves.
Again if you live in an American city the police aren't going to protect you. It's completely ok to commit a crime as there is little chance of getting caught and if there is you will be released soon. So make your choice if you want to fight back or be a passive victim.
