it doesn't - teutonic as in furor teutonicus is a roman word that implies germanic barbarians. than there are the teutonic knights which aren't that well regarded (might have sth to do with there behaviour in the holy land); also heinrich himmler tried to promote the ss as modern day teutonic knights which doesn't help that much, either.

... would you mind if i asked you how many squaws you killed lately (that would be comparable, methinks)?
Again sorry if any panties got twisted .I thought Teutonic meant the Germanic ideal . After all there were the Teutonic Knights of old .I meant it has a compliment so if it didn't come out that way oh well.

Again the Battle of New Orleans took place after eighteen day after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. It was completely unimportant battle wise but the Americans had a good time .

i don't think there's a major civil war battle that hasn't been war gamed a gazillion times
I'd love to find one.
IMHO to invest Washington DC, the Confederate Army has to cross bridges and swamps to get to it. Only half the Union forces were engaged. The half engaged has 15,000 men left. The Confederates are tired and disorganized. Same situation at Shiloh, running Yankees is exhausting. The rout seems to start about 5PM 30 miles 2-3 hours for tired men to get to DC and it will be dark by the time the Confederates get there. I think it is iffy at best.

Even if Forrest was leading them, him being cavalry not infantry, a mass of disorganized, hungry and tired men running into an organized resistance at the bridges are likely to start running the other way.

That's why these generals get fun to study. They are all gamblers! Grant thought his men were too tired to take Lookout Mountain and was furious when they went scampering up there without orders. They'd been in a whole lot of deep doo if they'd failed. Instead, they covered themselves (and their commander) with loads of glory. I've got to go back and look over the situation with the bridges. Robert E Lee, before he even resigned to take up with the South, knew Arlington was toast. If he had stayed Union, he'd have stacked that high ground full of artillery. After all, Abe could look out his window at the White House and wave to Lee drinking sweet tea on his front porch!

And still the Americans fought that entire war, virtually all the battles too, on the defensive. There was no American offensive to win that war.
We also have to keep in mind the British were also fighting a two front war in Europe so they could only place so much manpower in North America just like with the ARW.
Has Jeff Shara quoted General Longstreet " the ultimate out come of a defensive war is defeat".

I think that was Missionary Ridge. Grant had insulted the Army of the Cumberland by sacking Rosecrans then relegating them to backwater missions as if they were cowards. They just had to show him. Lt. Arthur MacArthur Jr was one of those scampering up Missionary Ridge, he was the dad of Douglas MacArthur.

Thanks! Got my mountains screwed up. Got to say, the Confederates didn't think the Federals had it in them, either! Those men then were built for endurance - noticed they were fairly small, not particularly muscular but they had stamina. Think that's why Forrest figured they could take the Union army before it hit Chattanooga - had an army of Energizer Bunnies!

I am much nearer MR than you. God knows how many times I've been there. I'd fail a test about California mountains.
