Whenever I give a talk on the Civil War, I always start out at this Lamon/Morgan grave site and work out. He does seem to be buried with friends who have friends in high places.

I do have his book and the care taker of Ward Hill Lamon grave site uses that book as his bible. He is the one that thought actor Thomas Crooks was related to Elizabeth Warren of Pocahontas fame. The care taker is an Unger from Unger Station WV. That was Stonewall Jackson's headquarters when the Union was in Winchester VA which I am told was often. General Sheridan lived two doors down from General Jackson on Braddock Ave. That house General Jackson lived in is now known as the actress Mary Tyler Moore house or at least she paid for the renovation. Her father owned the Schindler house. One thing for sure, with Ward Hill Lamon, you never get away from actors. This leads us to Karl Marx and The Marx Brothers.

Distance more than two doors...
  • Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters: Located at 415 N. Braddock Street, this house served as Jackson's headquarters during the winter of 1861-1862. It is now a museum.
  • Philip Sheridan's Headquarters: Located at 135 N. Braddock Street (at the corner of Braddock and Piccadilly), the building, known as the Logan House, was used by Sheridan as his base of operations during the 1864 Valley Campaign.

Well maybe five doors. In any event it's between Joseph P Kennedy's friend Judge Handley Library also on the cornor of Braddock and Piccadilly across the street. I should get a picture of that library. When General Sheridan was in town, Stonewall Jackson went to Unger Station WV. It's still there.

Ordnance-terrace, Chatham, was on Sunday thrown into a state of terror by the report that a murder had been committed at the house No. 10, occupied by Mrs. Bacon, widow lady, of advanced age, and her maid servant.
