I did not know much about her until this Video other than seeing the model at Bham City Hall decades ago and reading about the sinking of the aircraft carrier Princeton which blew up when the Birmingham was next to her attempting damage control. This Youtube channel is very good IMHO.
The model has moved around some.
An 8-foot (2.4 m) long waterline model of USS Birmingham, owned by the U. S. Navy, has been loaned for display at Birmingham City Hall, at the Southern Museum of Flight, and currently, at the Birmingham History Center.(closed because of covid 19)
