IMHO a Confederacy would be conquering its neighbors all the time to shut down the various routes for escaped slaves.

I found this with the "Afro Mexican" wikipedia. "Some enslaved and free Black Americans migrated into northern Mexico in the 19th century from the United States.[17] A few of the routes of the Underground Railroad led to Mexico.[77]. " Afro-Mexican is 1% of Mexico, most not from the United States.

They're suddenly running and hanging and moving everywhere, they must have heard of a Union man. Jefferson Davis said where is the non-barbarous times of dispute settled by speech. He said 4 places the South is not to be deemed a revolution. He said those words in the secession from congress, and inauguration, and in speech... He said the existent rights of independent states and if you will, slavery, to be recaptured.

An interesting branch of this topic is the Confederate agent Jose Quintero and the possible annexation of Coahuila and Nuevo Leon to the Confederacy. Many of the runaway slaves were located in Coahuila...many more relocated to Guerrero and Oaxaca provinces, much further south and deeper into Indian country.

Just as there is currently a Confederate enclave in Brazil, there is a black community in northern Mexico who maintain their traditions, similar to the Confederates. They're the Mascogos - known in the US as Black Seminoles. The Black Seminoles were experiencing a lot of persecution - those with reservations were being sold by their own Indian agents - so the chiefs Wild Cat and John Horse led the Florida people to Mexico, where slavery was outlawed. They have a very intriguing story!

I remember that discussion and had it in mind for my comment.
