May 2, 1863 - Lieut. Gen. Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, CSA, is mortally wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA, by a volley from his own men who had mistaken his envoy as Federal cavalry during Jackson's evening reconnaissance, requiring amputation of his left arm.
