Here's a character form the Civil War Union General Neal Dow. He would become better know as "the Father Prohibition" in the years after the Civil War.

He helped pass the first prohibition law in the country which was Maine's Law 1851 but wisely it was repealed in 1856. He became one of the leaders of the Temperance Movement after the war. The Temperance Movement was about the banding the making or selling of alcohol. The movement great success came when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed prohibiting the making or sale of alcohol in our nation.

The Mafia should have an alter to this guy because it was Prohibition of the 1920's that lead to the rise of the mafia as a force in American...

The Prohibition movement or Temperance movement was promoted by the progressive of the late 19th century as a way to end the ills of poverty. Many of the religious groups that fought against slavery join the Temperance Movement of the late 19th century. It looks like the progressive got something wrong...

General Dow one claim to fame during the Civil War for he was the prisoner exchanged for William "Fitz" Lee, Old Bobby Lee's son.

A curious find......
