It's not so much that a fraud is discovered, like the Piltdown Man. Its more why people maintain crazy beliefs. Like the Comet Pizza thing, or the election was stolen, or flat earthers(which I think are pranking us), in the face of evidence or rationality.

Mendel's theory is correct isn't it? But someone could have easily cleaned up the data to make the presentation of the theory simpler.
