I mention this before but the Slaveholders should have given the Federal government a stake in the business slavery. I suggest instead of the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 because of it trampled on Free states sense of right and envolved them indirectly in the slavery. In 1850 a wiser compromise called "The Border Protection and Fugitive Slave Recovery Law" should have been passed. It would have created a Broder Marshall force who main focus was to police the border between Free states and Slave states or any place where Fugitive Slave activity is suspected throughout the nation and its territories.

By creating a Federal police force to police the border between the Free and Slave state involved the apprehension of Fugitive slaves, the slaveholders have now invested the federal government in slavery and its future. If the Slaveholders were wise they would try to make it as big as possible so thousands of jobs would be in jeopardy if slavery ended. If its and large force think of the horses, boats, holding cells and etc. involved in running it and those support jobs tied to the Border Marshalls.

These wise Slaveholders would create the National Slave Association(NSA) promoting the Border police decrying fugitive slaves as uncivilized and a danger to the people. It will promote slavery as a Constitutional right to counter the Abolistist. It will also promote slavery public good in civilizing and teaching God to slaves.

What if the slaveholders had been wise and tie federal jobs to slavery throughout the nation?

What if they had created their own PR organization?

Would slavery had ever ended?

Would there have been a civil war?

A simpler solution was proposed-that the Federal Government pay slaveholders for escaped slaves. There IMHO constitutional questions of such a border patrol, the numbers of men under Federal control would have alarmed the South and who the heck pays for it.
