  • Skirmishes in the Chiricahua Mountains, the Arizona Territory, where the Federals capture and burn an Indian camp, along with 1,000 pounds of their precious food. (Sep 8-9)
  • Skirmish at Alpine, GA, the Chickamauga Campaign.
  • Skirmishes on the Atchafalaya, LA. (Sep 8-9)
  • Union boat attack, under Admiral Dahlgren, USN, on Fort Sumter, SC, as the Fort is being reduced to rubble, but this assault is repulsed with about 125 Union men killed, wounded or captured. (Sep 8-9)
  • The actions at Limestone Station and also at Telford's Sation, East TN.
  • Engagement between Union gunboats and Maj. Gen. William B. Franklin, USA, (of Bank's command) and Maj. Gen. John B. Magruder, CSA, results in a Federal defeat.

  • Engagement with Indians at Powder River, the Montana Territory, as a large considerable force of Indians attack the rear of the Federal's wagon train.
