George Macdonald Fraser's author of the wonderful Flashman series of historical novels wrote this memoir of his service in Burma in 1945, in the famed 14th Army. Its a vivid account of long marches, patrols, waiting around and terrifying combat with a tough foe. Highly recommended.

FWIW my copy of his memoir arrived today, looks interesting.
