H. W. Brands discusses his book about the American Revolution. The issues he discusses, such as the split between Ben Franklin and William Franklin, are relevant to our understanding of not only the American Revolution but the American Civil War too.


I'm glad the civil war aspect of the American Revolution has been getting more attention recent decades. There's a marked difference between how the losing side of the American Civil War was and is viewed compared to how the losing side is viewed in the American Revolution, or for that matter almost any other revolution or civil war in world history.

Treason is often not treason if it wins.


Treason doth never prosper, what's the reason? For if it prosper, none dare call it Treason.

Which goes back to my original point of how unusual that is.
would have been better to hang a few (just enough to get rid of that lost cause nonsense)
