October 23, 1864 - The Engagement at Westport, MO, near present day Kansas City, MO, as Brig. Gen. Joseph O. Shelby, CSA, attacks; Maj. Gen. Alfred Pleasonton, USA, and his cavalry counterattack; Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke, CSA, and the rest of Maj. Gen. Sterling Price's Confederate force see the Union troops reverse yesterday's defeat; Sterling withdraws southward which ends the Confederate threat in Missouri.
