I have his picture but can't get it to post! (They always said he got the medicine...)
Maybe depending on how you have this picture you could screen shot it from a phone or if it's a physical copy take a photo of that and post it. Maybe we could all post photos of our ancestors and share their stories. After Diane of course, ladies first (Yes some people in my generation were taught that).

It's like that scene in Little Big Man where he's yelling "George Washington!" to the guy trying to kill him...When did you ever hear an Indian yelling George Washington?!?

Classic movie.

Not especially unique for men of our generation, GL. But imho what's more pertinent today is the acknowledgement and peer respect of women we've learned since our teen years, those things that go beyond the mere "hold-your-chair / allow me to get the door / ladies first" stuff. A woman of course still appreciates those traditional symbolic acts of respect and politeness, but I'd be less inclined to be soliciting admiration for it (a medal or what?).

Imho what's as meaningful to women is that they are acknowledged and respected as peers, as evident in actions beyond symbolic acts. For example not shrinking away from a heated discussion because "there's a lady present," or playing a knight in shining armor to "defend" a women exposed to heated discussion. Fact is women can rightly be challenged for their views and they are plenty sturdy enough to withstand the challenge. Being invited to go first is not particularly relevant compared to being considered an equal in an important conversation. In which is more genuine respect?

Though we may play Victorian on TV, as men of this age we embrace a more open society, yes? We partner with women, we don't pander to them.

Overreaction on my part? ...Comments?

Overreaction on my part? ..

I would say so.

In my experience women of every age appreciate having a door opened for them. To those very, very few that do not, I quickly shut it back and tell them "be my guest, and re-open it yourself."

99% have always expected me to spring for dinner-- $, equality my....

I respect and revere the intelligence of either men or women, but do not discount ingrained human nature.

are there mines laying around in Your county?
I understand that was directed to another poster, but since this in general forum ...what does that even remotely refer too?

In Germany even today an occasional UXB is accidently exposed, but the U.S. was never extensively bombed or mined that the comment has any relevance imho, but what do I know?

occaisonal? in 2018 (newest data) we got 2811 bombs, that equals 7.7 occaisonal bombs a day. there are those who wish the allies hadn't used so much faulty ordnance. it's also not accidental that we find that third rate material - we search for it. an accidental find would be one going kaboom, don't you think?

Averaging seven UXBs a day as late as 2018! I suppose it shouldn't be surprising considering how many bombs were dropped on Germany, but we over here can be expected to think most of them blew up, so not UXBs (unexploded bombs). But what do I know?

Maybe for a new thread, but I for one would be fascinated to know your experience with it growing up, or get to some article about it. Are most of them fire or cluster bombs, or 250 or 500 pounders? Do any of these have delayed fuses (as with German bombs dropped on the UK) -- a nasty cruel business both ways.

At the risk of being repetitive- not much.
I own that. Indubitably there's someone else here who knows far more, pretty much everything there is to know*

So like crackers in a barrel, our journey is secure.
