Did Klan-friendly businesses signal kustomers through kreative advertising?

I came across a 1923 Florida newspaper ad which was spelled and formatted precisely thusly:

We
KLEAN
KLOTHES
KLEAN
The Mack Cleaning Company

I'm guessing they specialized in getting blood stains out of white robes.

Wouldn't surprise me! From the beginning they used newspaper ads to notify each other of meetings and events, and to recruit. The Memphis Avalanche, later Bulletin, was one of the first to do so, even had cryptic, garbled notices or articles only members would understand. The owner/editor Matthew Galloway was a member and used his paper on their behalf.
