  • The unintentional explosion of the ordnance building at Chattanooga, TN, causing approximately 10 casualties. The commanding officer orders the arrest of the ordnance officer for dereliction of duty.
  • 1868 - Florida ratifies the 14th Amendment.
  • 1893 - Structural failure of the top floor of Ford's Theater causes a collapse of the interior of the building killing 22 and injuring 68.
