Poor James Andrews! A victim of the fall of Ft Donelson. When Old Stars was recalled to central Tennessee due to the massive troop movements both Union and Confederate, he had to abandon the Andrews Raid. Their boss got hung but not high enough - it just barely lifted his heels off the ground and he was strangling. Soldiers ran up and tried to dig the dirt out from under but...well, it warn't the prettiest way to go. Eight of his raiders were also hung - twice. Guess the Confederates weren't too good at hanging - they forgot to build the gallows strong enough to hold all eight of them, so when the traps were sprung, the gallows collapsed. The rebel soldiers were told to hang them again and they protested - the law said hang 'em and we did! Well, they were hung again and this time it took. They all received Medals of Honor - the first to do so.
