Chamberlain lived to 85 with that injury, always getting something, always in surgery, always the guinea pig for new treatments. That's why the science of urology owes him a great deal! Like most vets, he had trouble readjusting to regular life and the injury had an effect on his marriage. His wife, Fanny, took a hike for a while, accusing him of beating on her, but they got back together and lived happily ever after. It wouldn't be surprising if he did that but Fanny was acting peculiar herself - think both of them had PTSD! However, he couldn't have gotten through it without her and said so.
