So the big controversy that has sparked almost a thousand threads on the site that shall not be named is Johnston just a yellow bellied coward " retreating Joe" or a highly skilled commander who was aggressive when he had a decent shot at pulling off an offensive? Did Johnston retreat because he had to but if so then what's the point of having a Confedrate Army if they just retreat anyway?
Did Davis do the right thing by firing Johnston after the debacle at Atlanta where a slightly outnumbered Union Army won by giving the AoT to Hood who was either a crazed drug addict ( depending on who one reads) or an aggressive officer who was either reckless or just stupid?
What ever the reason is Johnston's face is not on Stone Mountain and he gets no love by Neo Confederate's post war.
