I have a question about the founding of the Confederacy back in 1861. Well, I notice that there was no Declaration of Independence drawn up and sent to President Lincoln. There was no official document proclaiming the trespasses and usurpations by the United States government upon the people within the Confederacy. How can the Confederacy proclaim it self as a sovereign nation without proclaiming its Independence before the world as our Founding Fathers did on July 4, 1776...

I ask...

What day was Independence Day for the Confederacy? Was it celebrated back in the early 1860's?

I found dates like Feb 15, a convention was being held which promoted using force to take Ft. Sumter and Ft. Pickens.

I found another Feb 18t, Jeff Davis is voted Provisional President of the Confederacy. Is a Provisional President a real president?

I found this date March 11, this entity called the Confederacy adopts a permanent Constitution.

I did not find an official independence day date....for the Confederacy..

I ask.. What date in 1861 is considered Independence Day for the Confederacy? Why aren't our Neo-Confederates friends of today celebrating it? Why wasn't it made a holiday in the old confederate states after the war, like May Day?

I argue simple this...no Independence Day, no proclamation declaring one's independence, no revolution by the confederacy just a petty rebellion....that cost tens of thousands of lives...

Whats a Provisional President? Does that not mean temporary or regional? As history ignore the fact that Jeff Davis may have usurped the confederate leadership and cause for his o=n greed.? He was a TEMP!!!!

The Confederacy was never a nation for it never declared it own independence before its people and the world....

A thought...

nope, doesn't makes any sense if You are not indepentent (well not even in Your own tent)

there may be some celebrating the "day of the rebel cry" but a confederate day of independence would only proof the celebrators really stupid
