Isn't it, though? California's governor told us to eat outside (never mind it was 35), sit 6 feet apart (which made passing the potatoes interesting!) and to put the mask back on between bites (up, down, up, down...) Don't think many did that!

In terms of this particular virus, what about any of those recommendations is unrealistic? Instead of mocking and disavowing the actual bastard here -- the virus -- we project onto certain people that proactively resist the virus in actual ways that decrease chances of transmission.

So yes, stupid is as stupid does. To any Californian I would say go ahead and eat indoors and by all means stay cozy. Go ahead and chum it up in hugging distance. Be sure not to allow yourself to be inconvenienced by having to pass food a few extra feet (are you crippled?), Go ahead and parrot the many as if you can't act on your own (lemmings!). And go ahead and allow that a few more of the more vulnerable will in fact die specifically because of the added exposure. You can't wait a few months to assure that a few more people will survive this epidemic?

My friend Tim, actually a professional Santa, died of Covid-19 a couple weeks back merely because of exposure at his wife's small family-only funeral two weeks prior to that -- a gathering where all the "reasonable" rules were followed.

Bottom line, the virus doesn't care how "reasonable" we're being, or how comfortable we are. It doesn't care if we're "right" or "wise" or not, or if there's a "conspiracy" or not, nor does it care if our gatherings are awkward or not. It doesn't care if Santa and Mrs. Claus die or not. THAT'S ON US.

If he said nothing, folks would gripe and as well as anything he said. OTOH all of this may be beyond his comprehension so random stuff is said

I've thought it might stem from a way back, when we had a very infectious TB come through. Then it was mask up and quarantine the ones sick with it. However, there was a ruckus raised about does the state have the right to to this to a person and so forth... Kind of a can't win for losing situation! And, government can be counted on to over-correct every time. Even though I don't like Newsom, he's been punch drunk for some time - epidemic, drought, fires, riots...and I suppose an earthquake will happen next.
