Hey y'all, so we have a small town kind of feel and only so many of us are active here and it would be great to have all in members who can contribute new ideas and spice things up over all. So consider joining and you can learn a lot here from the other members and posts. Think about it and we will be happy to have you here =)

Indeed, that's a splendid idea. Anybody standing on the porch peering in, come on and have a seat. We've got hot coffee or cold beer as you like!

I prefer that they sit on the porch-swing or a rocker first, then I will decide if the get invited in for "spiced" coffee. ;)

Croatia makes a good cherry wine Maraska. It's popular in Jon's supermarkets in the Armenian and Russian community in East Hollywood .
It's a bit sweet but a good desert wine.

And pickled walnuts! I think they are pickled but they're aged in their shells - very sweet and tangy. Wonderful over really good vanilla ice cream!

I did wonder about that - most black walnuts are crossed with English walnut. Real black walnuts are one mess to process, that's for sure, and good luck getting them out of their shells! It seems, though, that it doesn't matter as they start the process while the nuts are still immature. They've got a variety of spices I've never heard of in with them, too. Very intriguing!

We, or should I say I, used to spin the the tractor wheels back and forth over 'em in the gravel drive-way to get them out of the hulls. Turned the drive green then it turned black after we let em set there for a couple days and picked em out.

Crackin' a black walnut is an art, if you don't want the hammer when splitting shell to catch your thumb or part of the shell to catch ya'. Digging out the nut from the shell is a whole different story.

Oatmeal cookies w/ black walnuts and raisins, is almost heaven. The trees didn't bear this year. :(

The old ranch had two black walnut trees, very old. Used gloves but it still turned your hands black! I have a black walnut cake recipe I've got to find - can't use the other regular walnuts because the taste is all in the black walnuts. Great ice cream, too!
