The majority favor leaving them where they are. How much does it cost to maintain a stone or metal monument? They pretty much just stand there, if some triggered snowflake isn't vandalizing them.

german wargraves are a lot more stones to mantain that confederate ones but that's not my point. they fought in germany's name so we care for their graves. finding a monument for them is a completely different matter, though.

According to what we have heard the last several years, either "all" or the "great majority" of black people are offended by Confederate monuments and want them removed.

It's a big lie.

States maintaining graves of the fallen? That's money well spent.

Who asked them -and in many cases required them- to go to war?

The States.

Why shouldn't they maintain the graves?
Graves even I could live with that but not one monument should get a stitch of government money...

We have a 41 month old poll, pretty old, conducted in the entire US in English. This poll asked folks who did not have a single CSA monument near them. The question of do you care was not asked leading me to conclude the Remain % included folks who don't care and are simply expressing status quo.

Nature of the Sample: NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll of 1,125 National Adults
This survey of 1,125 adults was conducted August 14th and August 15th, 2017 by The Marist Poll
sponsored in collaboration with NPR and PBS NewsHour. Adults 18 years of age and older residing in
the contiguous United States were contacted on landline or mobile numbers and interviewed in English
by telephone using live interviewers.

Are polls immutable? Is everything in this poll accurate today?

The Federal Government will provide a single gravestone to a Confederate dead different in design than the one for Union. However, the Union dead were disinterred and moved to national cemeteries. The relatives of Confederate dead had to form organizations to disinter CSA dead and move them at private cost to private cemeteries

I have one Great Great uncle James Guard private, 8th NC. Infantry Regiment, Company B. He was originally presumed captured at Cold Harbor and no record after that... for years me and a fellow relative tried to find him and I finally found his grave. He was not captured but wounded at Cold Harbor taken to a Richmond hospital where he died a year later of his wounds. He is buried in an unmarked grave in the famed Hollywood Cemetery. He was also was register as his brother John who survived the war. I called the cemetery to inform them of this mistake and to change their records. They informed me the VA will send them a headstone for free for his grave but they charge to install the headstone... the VA will give any confederate veteran a free headstone if needed... just got to send in the paperwork...

Last reply 14 hours ago: "Do you approve?"

He's thinking about it:
Well... This is good because it is actually marking a historic place an event that happened.

In truth, this marker should be left alone because it marking a historic event. But a pure true monument to confederate traitors, throw the paint... Oh, graves and gravestones are off-limits let them R.I.P...

Read the comments of his followers.... o_O
Throw the paint... bring the hammers... A confederate monument is not a historic treasure but a monument to traitors and white supremacy. No one would think of making Jewish people walk by statues to Nazi so why do we force our fellow African Americans to walk past Confederate monuments, ride on roads and highways named after confederate traitors or go to schools named after Confederate traitors. It is wrong and it does not matter if you had family members fight for the Confederacy. For they were wrong to be traitors and it is wrong today to honor them.
