The English speaking world calls it, the Battle of Jutland.... Do not winners get to name the battles...??? Is there an English translation for the word "skagerrakschlacht"

battle of skagerrak, obviously - maybe jutland (which isn't the real name, anyway*) seems to be easier to spell and pronounce for the english speaking world

*that would be jylland, which they still could happily mispronounce (being danish and all that)

Okay your nation has it own name for the battle... Your navy should have gone out and went toe to toe with the Brits... so maybe it would have ended up at the bottom of the sea but it would have taken many Brits as well maybe ending the blockade...

Battle of Skagerrak. Skagerrak is the strait between SE Norway and the Jutland Peninsula. This was the true battlefield.

We went from Turner's thesis on the American frontier to Mahan's sea power and Jutland! Great thread. Going back to the OP - I have some large questions for Turner! I know it was 1893, which was probably a good time to put forth this theme. This was the same year the Dawes Commission got to work getting that 'surplus' land from the tribe allotments into the hands of Americans - like the Oklahoma Land Rush to get rid of extra Cherokee land...which is why a lot of non-Cherokees ended up on Cherokee rolls. Fun times! Land is always the best goodie for the victors of war. That and getting to write the history!
