Well, you know with no civil pride at all, I think half the commentators get pretty happy on these topics. Ulysses Grant at the Capitol steps?!
Ulysses Grant was a cigar smoking racist who hates people, and died writing about himself with throat cancer!

What about Horace Underwood at Yonsei Korea? Hey... My topic is coming around again. What if he had a Confederate Uniform?!

It appears to have been successfully (and mercifully) blocked from view from that angle. As our good friend AH said - it's My Little Pony on acid!

Well, there is a certain museum in Columbia dedicated to all things Confederate. I'm not sure if it's been done yet - the last I heard there were obstacles - but Forrest and his wife were to be reburied there. (I think the general is kicking all the way there - he wanted to be buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis with his family and troops, and the plots are still open but Memphis' welcome mat is not out.) I'm sure they would be quite happy to have it since they have the statue of Forrest and the horse he rode in on. It is too bad all around about the Forrest Monument. Aside from all it was about, it was one of the finest equestrian sculptures in America by a noted American artist. In fact, some considered it among the best in the world.

it is brilliant, maybe removing Forrest from the horse would help

The whole story of the making of the monument is epic. Actually had to build a bridge over a river just to get it across Tennessee, and the marble from east Tennessee. Charles Niehaus was the sculptor. He was given access to every item on the statue - even Forrest's measurements as his tailor still had them on file. It's the most authentic sculpture of any Confederate general.

Sounds like the building of a modern-day football stadium.

I'll have to see where my article is on that! At one time I'd done a good deal of research - frankly, I had previously had no inkling of what it entailed to create one of these. The Recumbent Lee is another of herculean proportions and there's the 'other side' of it that is almost never seen, the side with the ever-ready sword in his hand! They were all coming back some day to whip the fight this time... That aspect of it reminds me of the Ghost Dance. All the changes are going away, the dead will return, and it will all be as before - just keep dancing. Just keep making monuments!
