You must admit Big Pigs=Big Bacon. Although it not a Jewish thing for the Myers and Strauss families of Richmond.

Yes, many Jews in the American South during the 19th century did eat bacon and other non-kosher foods. The degree to which Jewish people observed traditional dietary laws (kashrut) varied significantly, and many adapted their diets to assimilate into Southern culture and eat available local foods.

That is true as I know the Jewish group in Pittsburgh near the Tree of Life headed by Jeffery Myers did love Isaly's Chip Ham. Actually everyone loved it. Best pork ribs ever was from a Jewish/Catholic home near the Butler Fair Grounds. Even Anne Frank was Pittsburgh Jewish. So was Louis B Mayer and David O Selznick. The Ham eating Jews started out in Pittsburgh including the Oppenheimers. The Capital of Pittsburgh was Richmond. They moved it about 1775 or so.

Although her grandfather invited Jews to his house or castle in California to insult them. By court records she had relatives in Pittsburgh and Scranton. Her grandfather owned part of the Comstock Silver Mine. With that silver he purchased a newspaper. We only know them because the Catholic Church placed a very big order for silver chalices. Cardinal John McCloskey wanted each of his bishops to have Myer Myers silver chalices which included Catholic Bishop James ROOSEVELT Bayley who's aunt was Saint Elizabeth Seton of Emmitsburg MD just south of Gettysburg. My mother said each one had a diamond in it from the Napoleon III collection.
