A new monument has been installed in Richmond, VA. As noted in the Washington Post (article is behind a paywall), "Richmond unveiled a new Emancipation and Freedom Monument on Wednesday (9/22/2021) — commemorating a far different set of rebels than the Confederate statues that have been coming down for the past year." The Post also notes that this is "one of few nationwide commemorating enslaved people."
This is a great monument that I can't wait to go visit. I do wish it had more of a depiction of the agency that African American had in ending bondage, though.
