This is a two part doc from pbs in South Carolina about removing the Confederate flag from the SC capitol grounds after the horrific shooting in Charleston's AMC church. Everybody gets their say as the flag was put in the context of the times. Pretty good.

Funny quote, in a tense meeting about the flag, one state senator or rep, starts to speak about all the widows and orphans of the Confederate dead. An African American senator interrupts him: "Senator, don't get into a pain contest with a Black man from South Carolina."

Dylann Roof isn't funny, through. dead eyed.

Widows and orphans who are themselves long-dead.
The SCV should rename to GSCV and GGSCV. Grandsons and Greatgrandsons of Confederate Veterans

Bree Newsome is well known as the woman who scaled the flagpole on the state capitol grounds and removed the flag. An ally with her was interviewed for the "Downing a Flag" program said that a police sergeant wanted a black officer to tase Newsome, a move that could have meant her falling thirty feet, or electrocuting her. I'm 100 percent sure that would have raised a cheer in certain quarters. Cooler heads prevailed. The point of using a taser? Its not like she was going to fly away.

Nice poke in the eye for the congregation. Stay classy, SCV.
The SCV didn't place the tombstone there - the family of Louis Middleton and members of that congregation did.
It was their choice to inscribe it with the words "Confederate Soldier."

Here is the application for a headstone for the grave of Louis B. Middleton. The applicant was Ruby M. Forsythe. The M is for Middleton. I suppose she was his daughter.

Confederate Soldier."
I have no issue giving black man servants, cooks, and other labours in the confederate army tombstones recognizing thier time with the Confederate army. I do have issue implying they were soldiers bearing arms for they were not... They were either impressed freed slaves or slaves in force service to the confederate army...

You'll have to send your complaint to the US War Department (now Dept. of Defense) and the descendants of Louis Middleton.

I read up on this and you are correct. Young Mr. Middleton was a teenage "camp attendant" and cook to his master.
