It's all campy, very escapist. No thinking is good sometimes - it was when dime novels were at their peak! (Jethro Kloss, of Back to Eden fame, sternly warned they'd be the death of you - young women especially would become hysterical! But...never fear, he had an herb compound for that.)

Reading for fun is fundamental.
well John Carter starts with (from my mind: as a Southerner I have to say also he was black he was beautyful- or so but it was the naration)

forgot the name of the black warrior, but I think he wasn't from an egg (as prince Catoris of Helium - or so)

I really tried to forget that shit

as long as it's not sir walter scott View attachment 3819
Why, even Sherman wanted to read the latest Sir Walter Scott! The only bit of looting he was known to have done while marching through Georgia was pick up a copy of Scott's newest book. Hey, look on the ground there, haven't read that one yet!

but reading too many of the sir walter's books was how the whole fun started, wasn't it? one of ours can whip ten of theirs and all that nonsense.

Every lady of the manor thought her husband was a knight. Swords and roses, mint juleps and magnolias, gallantry and elegance... Well, that came crashing down in short order. Revenge of the Southern aristocratic women was putting up all those statues and monuments with Sir Walter's stylized and over the top poetry on them.

One of ours can whip seven of theirs...well, the only Confederate who could say that with truth was Forrest!
