I remember Buchanan stating that he ran Nixon's 1960 presidential campaign of he lied oh well. Yes Buchanan did get the lady laugh because Trump won in 2016. Of course he lost but not by much because most of Biden's popular vote margin came from California which doesn't matter in terms of electoral votes.
Yes Trump lost but not by much in terms of electoral college votes in swing states and Trump owns the Republican Party.
Biden may of won the poisoned chaluce and yes Biden will be the new president but almost half the population thinks he cheated ( perception is reality as far as the Trumpians go) and the Senate will be majority Republican unless the Dems pull of two wins in Georgia which is possible but not likely as Dems often stay home except for presidential elections.

Even with a 5 mollion majority in California, Biden won the rest of the country by 2 million votes.

True but my point is that for a Democratic Party Presidential Candidate to win it's not important to win by huge margins in blue states. Yes it would be great to abolish the electoral college which was designed to aid slave states in being politically important but it's not going to happen for at least a few decades.
Yes Biden won fair and square but it's cold comfort because it was not an overwhelming victory in many states.
A Republican can very well win again so the challenge is for the Dems to do better next time not bask in the glow of a hard won victory.

Are you nuts? California has the most popular votes of any state. 55 to be exact.
California doesn't matter anymore because it's an easy state for the Dems to win and the Repubs can and have won without it. Now if a Republican candidate can make California competitive then California matters. In my life time California was a purple state but that changed due to demographics. Demographics is a double edged sword it certainly helped the Dems in CA and Ny but not in the Upper Midwest.

Individual states don't matter. Biden's was an overwhelming victory by any measure. The states that were close were states Biden flipped. He turned Trumps 40k win in 2016 into a 90k win this time in PA. That is enormous. In Michigan Trump barely won in 2016 and Biden won by more than 150k this time. In Georgia, Trump won in 2016 by 112,000 and Biden flipped it by 12,000 this year. All those are impressive wins.

I didn't argue that Biden didn't win a victory but it's not something the Dems can rest assured they will win next time. Biden did beat an incumbent which is not easy. On the other hand Biden didn't have coattails.
