Also, the adage “if you build it, [they] will come" doesn't apply in a pandemic. Few people are going to put on a mask and risk exposure to a deadly disease for even the nicest gourmet ice cream. They'll stick to eating Breyer's on the couch where it's safe. We've seen evidence of this in Seattle, Washington. Although Gov. Jay Inslee didn't start restricting gatherings large public gatherings until March 10, businesses were already feeling the pinch. Amazon's corporate staff had started working from home the week prior and that was enough to shutter restaurants and cost hundreds of people their jobs.

The guy that ran the program for ten years blamed bureaucrats for its demise. I note that not a single Democrat raised any concern at the time.
Hind sight is 20/20.
Still waiting for your cards/or a confirming link on the table.

resident Donald Trump’s advisers are reportedly gearing up to spread the blame if the President’s plan to jumpstart the economy by May 1 amid the COVID-19 pandemic crashes and burns and results in the loss of additional American lives.

The Washington Post reported that while the White House is frantically piecing together a strategy to reopen businesses at the end of the month, it also hopes to shield Trump from the political consequences of the outbreak and his sluggish response to it. Staffers are reportedly aware of the risks of lifting social distancing guidelines so soon, and Trump himself knows that suddenly forcing the economy to open up again spells danger.

“Even he realizes that’s a bad idea,” an unnamed former official told the Post.

Therefore, Trump’s advisers have been reportedly attempting to sell the plan, which has not been fully formed, to business leaders, economists and other high profile figures, with the hope that Trump won’t be held solely responsible if the reopening backfires.

I trust those who sign death certificates and console the grieving. Not someone who profits by a booming stock market.
If the US economy collapses then the stock market will become worthless.
At some point and sooner rather then later the US has to bite the bullet and reopen the economy. The cure can not be worse then the disease.

it's not the stock market - it's small business

the stock market is for rich people (like me); it doesnt help anybody to survive. it helps to keep people in jobs (which is important) but the first thing is that everybody can pay their bills and that means subsidize paychecks - i got three employees and i sent them all on payed leave until it's over. that's not many of course but it's the only way to go. if anybody needs proof why john maynard keynes was right it's today.

the us govt spends scroogemcducklions of money for enriching the already rich - they should try to keep the country running for a change. poor people send every dime through the economy (they have to) - rich people stash it somewhere.

Wars too.

Someday the economy will have to woken up, That is as obvious as we are all dead in the long run and provides very little information.

So far economic lackeys of the 1% and their politicians bought and paid for by the 1% are all for endangering citizens, The folks that have to deal with the result not so much. We are not sure that opening everything will result in folks showing up.

“I think it’s both good news and bad news,” said MGH pathology vice chairman Dr. John Iafrate. “The bad news is that there’s a raging epidemic in Chelsea, and many people walking on the street don’t know that they’re carrying the virus and that they may be exposing uninfected individuals in their families. On the good-news side, it suggests that Chelsea has made its way through a good part of the epidemic. They’re probably further along than other towns.”

The “lack of robust testing in Georgia” means the state’s COVID-19 death toll may be significantly higher than the official count released by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s administration, according to a new report by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“On March 23, the deaths totaled 26. On April 1, 125. On April 10, 425. And on Friday, the agency said the coronavirus has now killed 668 Georgians. But those figures, as grim as they sound, may significantly understate the number of lives lost in Georgia to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus,” the newspaper reported.
