Whale poop to save the oceans... and climate change...

Whales provide important nutrient recycling services in ocean ecosystems. When they poop, they recycle nutrients — including iron — back into the sea. These nutrients are then consumed by smaller ocean creatures like phytoplankton, which helps to keep oceans healthy.Nov 3, 2021

Eating more than thought means the whales also poop more than thought. But that poop helps out oceans because of the nutrients, like iron, it contains. Because whales usually defecate near the ocean surface, the nutrients inside help bloom carbon-absorbing phytoplankton that "form the base of ocean food-webs."Nov 8, 2021

Whale poop is so important there are plans to make fake whale poop to save the planet...

Whale poop is good for marine life. Researchers hope to use fake feces to capitalize on that and push ocean carbon capture to 50% of global emissions.

From fish to fertilizer and carbon capture
Whales feed on fish, krill or squid. And when they excrete, they release nutrients that act as a fertilizer. The nutrients encourage growth and provide food for other organisms at the surface of the seabed. Those organisms include some of the smallest living creatures, known as phytoplankton. And when an area is especially fertile, that life can explode into what is called a phytoplankton bloom. Phytoplankton blooms suck up carbon dioxide — one of four main greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. After feeding on the carbon dioxide, phytoplankton release oxygen in return. Our oceans absorb an amazing 30% of the carbon dioxide that's released into the atmosphere when we burn fossil fuels.

There is a microbe increasing methane gas defeating our efforts to reduce climate change gases... These microbes are in our landfills...

Researchers have long known that landfills produce methane, but had a hard time figuring out why -- since landfills do not start out as a friendly environment for the organisms that produce methane. New research shows that one species of microbe is paving the way for other methane producers.Apr 6, 2011

The methane emissions from MSW landfills in 2020 were approximately equivalent to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from about 20.3 million passenger vehicles driven for one year or the CO2 emissions from nearly 11.9 million homes' energy use for one year.Apr 21, 2022

Do all realize whales fertilized the world oceans like buffalos fertilized the plains. We need to whale poop the oceans but now we are making fields methane with our landfills. As other nation around the world get richer their landfills with become methane threats too...

MIT going to save the planet... @rittmeister

just a revamp of the protective shield to be deployed in space - how much would it cost and who pays for it?

L1 is the obvious place for any such 'shield' - what's new is the bubble concept. your yahoo article is a bit thin so here is mit on the topic (there's a link in the yahoo article) but that isn't too much into details either.

From the source's mouth...

Space-based solutions would be safer – for instance, if we deflect 1.8% of incident solar radiation before it hits our planet, we could fully reverse today's global warming.
