defensivly: hide - shoot (maybe shoot twice) - run
try sth like
this (obviously it's more than mad even the way it was done) with a tank destroyer or a stug - all you get is a dead crew. you probably don't want to try that with a sherman either.
As the above video made clear and what I stated earlier the Sherman did what is was supposed to do. At the time of it's first battle it was used successfully by the British Army at El Alamain and was equal or better then anything the Germans had up to that time. Also the video mentioned that in Italy the Sherman with a 75mm gun could still kill Panthers and Tiger's.
Obviously the Tiger and Panther which were newer tanks could all things being equal dominate the Sherman. The video did point out a battle I previously mentioned in France where Sherman's killed lots of Panthers for relatively few losses.
The video mentioned the Firefly which had its limitations as far as being to cramped but it killed Panthers and Tiger's.
The video mentioned that who ever gets of the first shot wins four out of five times. So if a TD gets two or so aimed shots first and runs away that's not a bad outcome.
The Stug was a stop gap measure since the German Panzers were overwhelmed by mid to late 1943.
They did a good job but they could only do so much against a superior enemy.
