Tuesday April 5 1864
  • Skirmish at Marks' Mills, AR, the Camden (AR) Campaign.
  • Skirmish at Whiteley's Mills, AR, with guerrillas.
  • Skirmish on Quicksand Creek, Eastern KY.
  • Skirmish at Natchitoches, LA, with Lieut. Gen. Richard Taylor, CSA, as the US transports are having difficulty with the low water level in the Red River, LA.
  • Federal expedition from New Madrid, MO, and skirmishes in the swamps of Little River, near Osceola, and on Pemiscot Bayou. The commanding Union officer advises the men against making a fire, which they do anyway. The Federals are attacked as they slept. Men are killed and wounded. The Federals leave one man mortally wounded with the women of a nearby house who promise to bury him. Before leaving, the Yankees find the ground covered with the blood of wounded Rebels. (Apr 5-9)
  • Affair near Blount's Creek, NC, where a Federal scouting party surprise and capture a Rebel command there.
