African American Welsh surnames.

A lot of African Americans seem to have Welsh surnames. I believe former slaves mostly took their names from their owners but I also believe that Welsh immigration to the US was almost exclusively to the coal and iron producing areas of the North so there couldn't have been many slave owners of Welsh extraction, Jefferson Davis being the only one I know though I don't doubt there were more.
